Starting from Munich, visit the Austrian city of Salzburg and see many of its most popular attractions such as Mozart Square in the heart of Salzburg’s old town, the historical Mirabell Palace and beautiful Lake Wolfgang. Stroll around Salzburg at your own pace with stunning views of the Lower Bavarian Alps, take in landmarks such as Salzburg Cathedral, one of the city’s most significant pieces of church architecture; St. Peter’s Abbey, a Benedictine monastery; and Mozart Square, a large courtyard in the heart of the old town dedicated to composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Also see the fountain at Mirabell Palace, well known for its appearance in the classic movie “The Sound of Music”. Walk along Lake Wolfgang and admire the scenery or take an optional boat ride on the lake to see the Maria Plain Pilgrimage Church and the White Horse Inn, from the 1900s operetta of the same name.
On the return trip to Munich, you will drive past the lake, Mondsee, another famous location from “The Sound of Music”. The second day of the tour starts with a visit to the village of Harburg, where you will have the chance to explore this small town, dominated by Harburg Castle, one of the most impressive remaining medieval castles in Germany. Afterwards, board the coach for a trip to the picturesque town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, widely believed to be the best-preserved medieval old town in all of Germany. Stroll at your own pace through the town’s winding cobbled lanes and see the Renaissance Town Hall, the half-timbered houses, and the almost fairy tale appearance of the majestic town gates.
